東京スカイツリーが建っている押上で育ちました。私は今でも「浅草」という町が大好きです！！
Hello! My name is Tak Takaoka! My age is 63 years old. I grew up in OSHIAGE, a town where Tokyo Skytree tower now stands. I still love the town of Asakusa!!
今、東京・浅草を訪れている海外からの皆さんはご存じないとは思いますが、私が子供から高校生になる位まで「浅草」はまったく観光客が来ない町だったのですよ。なので夜８時になるとほとんどのお店が閉店していました。今では考えられない光景がそこにはありました。
私がこどもだった１９６０年代、７０年代の浅草は数多くの映画館がありました。浅草東宝、浅草松竹、浅草東映、そして数多くの２番館・名画座があったのです。私もよくそれらの映画館で映画を観たものでした。
The tourists from overseas who are currently visiting Asakusa in Tokyo may not know this, but from when I was a child until I was in high school, Asakusa was a town that no tourists visited at all. So most of the stores were closed by 20 o'clock. It was a scene that would be unthinkable today.
When I was a child in the 1960s and 1970s, there were many movie theaters in Asakusa. There were Asakusa Toho, Asakusa Shochiku, Asakusa Toei, and many second-run theaters and masterpiece theaters. I often watched movies at those theaters.
そんな浅草にもっと人に来てもらいたいと「浅草女将さん会」などが中心になって様々な催し物が行われるようになりました。浅草と上野間に２階建てバスを走らせたり、浅草で「サンバカーニバル」を実施したりと３０年に渡る地道な努力によって徐々に徐々にと浅草は賑わいを取り戻してきたのです。
In order to attract more people to Asakusa, the "Asakusa Landlady Association" and other groups started to organize various events. Through 30 years of steady efforts, such as running double-decker buses between Asakusa and Ueno and holding the "Samba Carnival" in Asakusa. Asakusa has gradually regained its vitality.
浅草の川向うになる町である押上に「東京スカイツリー」というタワーが建ったことによって「東京スカイツリー」と「浅草」を訪れる海外のお客様が一挙に増えることになったわけです。（コロナの時期は観光客も激減してしまいましたが・・・。嬉しいことに２０２５年の夏はかなりの数の海外からのお客様が浅草周辺にやってきてくれています。）
The construction of the Tokyo Skytree tower in Oshiage, a town across the river from Asakusa, has led to a sudden increase in the number of foreign visitors to the Tokyo Skytree and Asakusa. (Although the number of tourists has dropped dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic... we are pleased to report that in the summer of 2025, a significant number of foreign visitors are coming to the Asakusa area.)
最近、昼間に浅草を訪れると本当に数多くの外国からの観光客が浅草の町を楽しんで頂いているのが分かります。昔、人気のなかった町の様子を知っている分、私は浅草でお店を経営している訳ではなりませんが、それでも、浅草という町に人々が集い、食や日本文化、日本の着物などを笑顔で楽しんでくれている姿を見ると、本当に嬉しくなってしまいます。Recently, when I visit Asakusa during the day time, I can see that many foreing tourists are enjoying the town. I know what the used to look like when it was unpopular, so even though I don't run a shop in Asakusa, I'm still really happy to see people gathering in the town of Asakusa, enjoying the food,
Japanese culture, Japanese Kimonos, with smiles on their faces.
東京スカイツリーが建ってからというもの、浅草には以下の単語がついているお店が増えましたねぇ。「Samurai」「Ninja」「Sumo」「もんじゃ=Monja」。そして、町には「人力車」が多く行きかっていますよぉね～～。Since the Tokyo Skytree was built, the number of shops and restaurants with the following words has increased in Asakusa, "Samurai", "Ninja", "Sumo" and "Monja". And there are a lot of "人力車, Jinrikishas ="rickshaws" going around the town.
この夏は異常に暑いから「人力車」を曳いて町を練り歩いている俥夫（しゃふ）の皆さん、しっかりと水分をとって体調に気をつけながらお仕事してくださいね～～～！！This Summer has been extremely hot, so to all the rickshaw drivers who parage around the town pulling rickshaws, please make sure to drink plenty of waters and take care of your health while you work!!
海外から観光で浅草を訪れる世界からの旅行客の皆さんも浅草もとても暑いので、水分をしっかりと取りながら、さまざまなお店がいろいろな美味しいものをご用意していますから、しっかりと浅草を楽しんでくださいねぇ！
To all the tourists from around the world visiting Asakusa, it’s very hot here too, so please dring a lot of water and enjoy Asakusa as there are many delicious foods and drinks.
